Open Budget Survey Finalized
The Social Research and Development Center (SRDC) has recently completed the Open Budget Survey (OBS) which is produced by the International Budget Partnership (IBP). SRDC was, towards the end of the last year, commissioned by the IBP to conduct the survey in Yemen.
The OBS, which examines the budgeting processes in over 100 countries, seeks to investigate budget transparency and accountability and promote public access to budget information during the budget cycle as well as assessing the strength of auditing and oversight institutions and public engagement.
The survey, conducted by a global network of hundreds of researchers over a two-year period, is the only independent, comparative and regular measure of budget transparency, participation, and oversight in the world. It is the culmination of deep analyses and research of public budgeting process during preparation, execution and oversight.
The survey comprised extensive desk research and in-depth interviews with officials at the Ministry of Finance and other respective institutions. The findings of the OBS represented in the Open Budget Index is to be released soon.
